Jesus: A Pleasant Accessory?

The old TV commercial used to say “things go better with Coke”. Substitute the word “Christ” and you have today’s message in many churches. A consumer Christianity. A part of the successful formula. But God is looking for the “consumed Christian”, one who is absolutely overtaken by the realization that all is lost (not just inconvenienced) without a burning and vital desire to have only Christ as the hope, the example, the Surety, the Friend and the destination.

How ironic are the names of some of God’s spokespersons: Whitefield, Wilberforce, Wordsworth, Livingstone, Goforth, Washer.
