The Scar on His Side

It was there

An ever token

Of the workings

Of his God.

He was lonely

God took notice

Brought on sleep

(A novel thought).

Pierced his person

Took just one rib

Brought on beauty

Love and home.

No more lonely

Days a-wandering

Had a help-mate

Had a poem.

How he loved her

How they cherished

Their dominion

In the glade.

‘Til the serpent

Played his darkest,

Stirred up pride,

Disaster made.

But a Seed

Come from the woman

And another

Wounded side

Would begin

Another union.

Would reverse

The mess of pride.

John 19: 34

(What the First Adam did, the Last Adam un-did. See Romans 5.)
