Reconnaissance

Salvoes in Faith

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I pull over
At roadside
And sit at
Ditch’s crest
Steadying camera.
Horses caught
The eye at first
Big ones
Butterscotch
Power necks
And haunches.
Grazing with ease
Tails flicking
Nonchalantly.
Video is now
On the go
Capturing
Sturdy
Monochrome barn
Early garden
Of glads
Vegetables
Mother’s purple.
Crisp laundry
Fluttering on
The pull line.
House of generations
Clapboard
Green eaves, trim
(Friendly folk’s colour.)
And trees of
Colossal height
Girding it all.
Spring’s happy whisper
Through the leaves.
Mother, daughter
In pale violet dresses
Busy themselves
In-and-out of
Out-buildings.
The quiet pulsing
Woman’s pace
Of simple industry.
Doubtless flowers
Produce, honey
In a few weeks’ time
Roadside.
And offered.
Where I sit
Spying, capturing.
While swallows dip,
Oblivious.
Finches serenade
Red-wings scold
This Re-con Boy
From another time
And frenzied pace.
