It breaks the snow

And raises verdant heads

To seek the sun

And just when all seemed lost

And all the juices run

The winds of jangling chime

Suggesting cold is king

Now silenced

In the warming kiss of spring

And brown things

Hidden ‘neath the rime

And much too dull

To take up thought or time

Will pass to songsters

On  the limb

And bursting buds

Adorning all once grim.

The Life in sap and song and sun

Cannot be quenched

Or balefully undone.

And finally our Great Winter

Causing years of dread

Is loosed in Life

And Summer’s charm instead.
