Transition at Twelve

Transition at Twelve

taken from the google site Stuff That Rhymes

The gong goes off…

Twelve it is
The Old Man gathers
His tattered things
Hopes that his legacy
Includes wisdom, restraint, pain
Thanksgiving, reverie, art.
The Youth makes entrance
Pink and plump
No wardrobe yet chosen
Lisping words
He hardly understands.
Friendship, favour
Opportunity, good cheer
Signal plans and success.
And the crowd sings
At the gonging
And the fireworks.
Disinclined to utter
Those irreplaceable words:
“Lord willing”.
Happy New Year
