Wittenberg, Now

Would you deal so harshly

Demanding full compliance

Draining every farthing

To stack the coffers high?

Would you stifle dialogue

Convinced of all the answers

Quieting each protest

With flames that reach the sky?

Would you wield the power

To rob a man of heaven

Send him to the torments

With just one stroke of pen?

You have missed the spirit

Of Him who fed the thousands

Found some simple stories

To woo the hearts of men.

Him the people followed

Convinced that there was healing

And a God as Father

He beautifully portrayed.

Worship as a family

In mutual submission

Love the rod of measure

And grace the stock-in-trade.
